Galveston, TX — December 22, 2025
A Mexican Navy aircraft on a medical support mission crashed into Galveston Bay near the Galveston Causeway on Monday afternoon, resulting in at least five confirmed fatalities and prompting a large-scale emergency response from U.S. and Mexican authorities.
The twin-engine plane was transporting eight people, including a young pediatric patient, four Mexican Navy crew members and four civilians, according to the Mexican Navy and U.S. Coast Guard officials.
Two passengers were affiliated with the Michou and Mau Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides aid and medical transport to children with severe burn injuries.
Crash and Response
The aircraft went down in foggy and low-visibility conditions near the causeway connecting Galveston Island to the mainland, about 50 miles southeast of Houston.
Emergency teams from multiple agencies responded to the scene, including:
U.S. Coast Guard
Local fire and police departments
Texas Department of Public Safety
Mexican Navy search and rescue units
Several survivors were pulled from the water and transported to nearby hospitals, though details on their current conditions have not been fully released. Federal investigators, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), have arrived to begin a formal investigation into the cause of the crash.
Ongoing Investigation
Officials have not yet released a definitive cause, but weather conditions — particularly dense fog in the area at the time — are under review as a potential factor.
The Mexican Navy released a statement offering condolences to the families of those killed and pledged full cooperation with U.S. authorities as the investigation continues.
